The 2010 Mercury Milan receives more power and freshened styling. Also making its debut is a gas/electric hybrid. This midsize sedan shares its basic design with the Ford Fusion and premium-midsize Lincoln MKZ. Milan reprises Base and Premier trim levels, each available with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive returns for V6 Premier versions. The 2010 Milan borrows its new powertrains from Mercury's compact Mariner SUV. A 175-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine replaces a 160-horsepower 2.3-liter 4-cylinder and is standard on front-drive models. A 240-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 replaces a 221-horsepower 3.0 V6 and is now capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. This engine is optional on the front-drive Premier. Four-cylinder versions offer a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. V6 models have a 6-speed automatic. Hybrids pair a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor for 191 horsepower total. They can run on one or both of their power sources to balance acceleration and fuel economy. No plug-in charging is required. Their sole transmission is a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. Also reprising their roles as options are a navigation system and Ford's Sync voice-activated interface for cell phones and MP3 players. Newly offered is blind-spot alert. The system also incorporates Ford's Cross Traffic Alert, which activates when the transmission is in reverse; it detects any traffic moving toward the vehicle.
